Douglas Fir with Mahogany Strips
This project is more about exploring a technique than about design. The table is made of lengths of inexpensive 4×4 Douglas Fir sawn up into 3″ blocks and glued back together. ”The glue joint is stronger than the wood”, we hope so! The joints in the surface are routed into 1/2″ wide rebates and filled with strips of mahogany, this hides the rough joints between blocks.
I have now made two of these tables.
Japanese Table
Peruvian walnut / Nogal with mesquite feet and ash stretchers. 42" diameter and 15" high.
Sand Ripple Table
Douglas Fir solid glue up with ripples pattern cut by CNC router
